Annual Awards Lunch

The date has been set for our Annual Advocate's for Women Awards
Luncheon and we are seeking nominations for the 2008 awards. The purpose
is to honor San Fran Bay Area individuals and organizatins working to
prevent and stop all forms of violence agains women and/or girls. There
are so many who deserve recognition for the healing, challenging work
they do to end violence in our communities.

Please think about who you know or know of who should be honored for the
work they do and get your nominations into us.

The possible categories are:

Justice Advocate (legal advocates, police officers, lawyers, judges,
politicians, etc.)
Past Winners
2006 Kamala Harris, San Francisco District Attorney;
2007 Calico: The Child Abuse Listening, Interviewing & Coord. Center

Healing Advocate (counselors, therapists, trauma & recovery workers,
nurses, alternative therapists, etc.)
Past Winners:
2006 Laura Hurst, Victim Advocate, Berkeley Police Dept.;
2007 Feminist Therapy Associates

Change Maker Advocate (professors, authors, performers, teachers,
educators, etc.)
Past Winner:
2006 Staci Haines, author, producer and founder of Generation 5

Empowering Agency Advocate (organizations supporting women and girls,
rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, victim advocate
agencies, child abuse prevention organizations, etc.)
Past Winners:
2006 The Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic;
2007 The Center for Relationship Abuse Awareness

Distinguished Service to IMPACT (Impact Bay Area instructor, board
member or volunteer award)
Past Winners:
2006 Kathy Turner, IBA Self-Defense Instructor;
2007 Carolyn Wales, IBA Board President

All outside award winners will be contacted by October 20th and will
receive free admission for themselves and up to 3 friends/colleagues to
the awards luncheon plus a gift certificate for a free Women's Basics
self-defense class (can be applied to upper level class if they are
already a Basics graduate).

All active instructors will be sponsored by donors to attend the
luncheon for free; it is also a time for us to recognize publicly all
the amazing work you do teaching our empowering, healing self-defense
classes.
